About This Episode

Christine Job’s Background

Christine Job is a lawyer, business strategist, and host of the podcast Flourish in the Foreign, where she highlights the stories of Black women thriving abroad. Christine’s love for travel began with her study abroad experiences, which inspired her to seek opportunities beyond the borders of the United States. After a career in law and consulting, she moved to Spain for what was supposed to be a short sabbatical and turned it into a new way of life.

"I didn’t want to wait for someone to choose me or give me permission. I decided to bet on myself and create the life I wanted abroad," shares Christine Job on You Are A Lawyer.

Now based in Valencia, Christine helps women of color build businesses that prioritize financial and professional wellness, drawing on her own experiences of entrepreneurship and adaptability. Through her work and podcast, she empowers others to embrace unconventional paths and find fulfillment globally.

Why Law School

Christine chose law school as a stepping stone to create a meaningful career, particularly after navigating an unstable job market following the 2009 economic downturn. Encouraged by her mother’s advice, Christine saw law school as an opportunity to combine her business acumen with legal expertise, building a foundation for future career flexibility. Despite initial doubts, law school became a space where she explored her diverse interests and honed her problem-solving skills.

"My mom told me, ‘Go to law school—you’ll always have a career to fall back on.’ So I did, but I always knew I wanted to go my own way," reflects Christine Job on Episode 176 of You Are a Lawyer.

While law school reinforced her critical thinking and advocacy skills, Christine’s journey was anything but conventional. She explored various roles—from working with federal judges to corporate startups—ultimately discovering that her path lay in crafting her own career abroad.

What Can You Do with a Law Degree

Christine Job believes a law degree equips you with the analytical and problem-solving skills to thrive in virtually any field, from entrepreneurship to consulting. She encourages lawyers to think beyond traditional career paths, using their legal training to pursue roles that align with their personal and professional goals.

"Lawyers are natural problem-solvers, and those skills are invaluable whether you’re in a courtroom or building a business abroad," explains Christine Job, on this episode of You Are a Lawyer.

Her own career reflects this versatility. By leveraging her legal knowledge and business background, Christine has built a consultancy that helps women of color launch businesses abroad. Her story shows how a JD can be the foundation for creative, impactful, and fulfilling careers outside of traditional practice.

Lawyer Side Hustles

Christine’s entrepreneurial journey began in law school when she explored business incubators and started consulting on the side. She discovered that lawyers are uniquely positioned to turn their expertise into thriving businesses by identifying their marketable skills and addressing client needs. Her work now focuses on helping women of color launch businesses abroad, blending her legal and strategic expertise.

“You don’t need to reinvent the wheel—your marketable skills can become the foundation for a business that supports the life you want,” shares Christine Job in Episode 176 of You Are a Lawyer.

Christine encourages lawyers to embrace non-traditional careers, whether through side hustles or full-time ventures. Her approach highlights the importance of aligning your passions with your expertise to create businesses that offer both personal fulfillment and financial freedom.
